Case Study: The City of Merriam, Kansas

In 2018, the City of Merriam approached Lynchpin Ideas with a unique challenge. The City had a tagline that they loved, "Just Right." Yet no one — from City staff to elected officials — could describe what, exactly, made Merriam “Just Right.”

We were retained to discover the answer. Step one was research: we met with business owners, residents and staff to discover what made Merriam different, relevant, meaningful and authentic. In doing so, we learned what made Merriam “Just Right” … for all the right reasons. Then we created the City's Brand Voice Toolkit — a mission statement, key messages, brand promise, persona and word bank. Our recommendations were not just embraced but also implemented across all City channels.

In 2020, our agency was engaged to develop a regional campaign to announce and promote the City’s brand-new Community Center. After conducting research with City staff and key community members, we developed a campaign and launched it regionally through social media, out-of-home and direct mail channels. To wrap up our engagement, we extended the campaign treatment to an employee recruitment campaign to help fill open positions at the center.
